Black Bear Reproduction

American black bears mate in the summer. The gestation period is about 63-70 days. 1 to 5 cubs are born. Cubs are blind, hairless, and helpless when born. They remain with their mother for about 1.5 years.

Asiatic black bears mate in the spring or autumn. The gestation period takes 6-8 months. 2-4 cubs are born, in winter or early spring. Cubs remain with the mother for about 2 years.
